A circular economy for office furniture is a model that keeps each piece in use for as long as possible through reuse, resale, donation, renewal, and repair. Instead of buy, use, dispose, the goal is to keep products and materials circulating, and to recycle only at genuine end of life.
How is it different from the old model?
The traditional path was linear: purchase, use, dispose. A circular model replaces the last step. A desk or chair that leaves one office moves to another, gets donated, gets renewed, or is resold, so its useful life keeps going.
How does it work in practice?
- Reuse and redeploy furniture within an organization.
- Resell desirable pieces at 50 to 70% below retail to new owners.
- Donate to schools and nonprofits, with documentation.
- Recycle responsibly only what has truly reached end of life.

Why does it matter?
Because the linear model is wasteful and expensive. The EPA estimates about 17 billion pounds of furniture waste each year, much of it still usable. Reuse cuts that waste, recovers value, and lowers the carbon tied to making new furniture, most of which shows up in a company's Scope 3 emissions.
