ServiceNow proved that office furniture doesn't belong in a landfill

Too often the answer is disappointing. Perfectly usable workstations, task chairs, conference tables, and office furniture get sent to the landfill because there is no plan for what comes next.

ServiceNow decided there had to be a better way.

Working alongside One Workplace, RESEAT was brought in to inventory and liquidate furniture from a 147,000 square foot campus in Santa Clara, California. The project covered 462 Steelcase Answer workstations, 462 Steelcase Leap chairs, 28 conference rooms, and additional ancillary furniture. A significant undertaking by any measure.

Instead of treating the furniture as waste, RESEAT treated it as an asset.

We inventoried every piece, gave it a RESEAT Digital Product Passport, and matched it with the best possible outcome. Through a mix of resale and donation, 100% of the furniture found a second life. Zero landfill.

The results speak for themselves. ServiceNow generated 40,000 dollars in resale value, turning what is usually a disposal expense into a financial return. After inventory processing and RESEAT ID costs, the project returned 183% on investment and prevented roughly 588 metric tons of CO₂e.

Sustainability isn't just about recycling. It is about keeping valuable products in use for as long as possible. Projects like this show that companies do not have to choose between financial responsibility and environmental responsibility. With the right strategy, they get both.
